FACTORS TO CONSIDER WHILE CHOOSING A SHATAVARI EXTRACT

  • Make sure that the total Shatavarin content is measured using HPLC. Some companies measure the total Shatavarins using TLC and HPTLC, which are not the most accurate analytical methods for quantifying the total Shatavarin content.
  • Make sure that the total Shatavarin content in the extract is optimal. Having a very high percentage of Shatavarins is not necessarily desirable, as it can make the extract pharmaceutical drug-like. At the same time, too low a content requires a very high dosage.
  • Make sure that the Shatavari supplier controls the entire supply chain. Most of the companies buy Shatavari roots from the open market and even process the extracts at a third-party manufacturing unit, with no control over consistency and quality.
  • Make sure that the dosage of the extract is optimum, and not too low to deliver efficacy.
  • Make sure that the Shatavari extract is clean and organic.
  • Make sure that the clinical studies are published in peer-reviewed PubMed-indexed journals.

Phytochemistry: Shatavari’s potency arises from its unique blend of steroidal saponins (Shatavarins I–IV), alkaloids, tannins, flavonoids, polysaccharides, and mucilage. These compounds regulate hormones, reduce oxidative stress, and promote immune and reproductive balance — explaining their wide therapeutic scope in women’s wellness.
